Bettering your Communication with your Loved One

Bettering your communications with your loved one could mean a stronger, long lasting relationship. When you begin a new relationship its common for you and your significant other to talk for hours. Bettering your communication skills may not even seem like something that would be necessary at first. Over time though, taking for granted that initial verbal connection is easy to do.

You want to believe that your significant other should remember everything that you have to say. You almost want them to read your mind about how you are feeling. After all you did tell them all of these things in the beginning didn’t you. But its these assumptions that can potentially begin to destroy your relationship.

Bettering your Communication

To prevent yourself from making assumptions in a relationship there are some very easy things that you can do. These can prevent future problems from happening and they are things that can be very natural to do. Relationships take time and energy and that is something that can be easily forgotten as time goes on.

Talking about how you are feeling and talking often is an easy thing that you can do to fight against assumptions. Instead of just thinking that your partner knows how you feel about something they really will.

While talking is important, its not the only part of communication. Listening is sometimes more important then what is actually being said. Actively listen to what your partner has to tell you. Don’t worry about what you are going to say next, listen to what they are saying. If you don’t understand something that they are saying take the time to ask them to clarify. It not only shows that you’re listening to what they have to say but you are trying to understand them.

Being Honest is a Simple way to Bettering your Communication

You should always be honest with yourself and with your significant other. It can prevent unwanted future arguments and can help really get across what is expected between you and your loved one.

If you don’t express what you expect from your significant other than how can you expect them to do those things. Being honest about what you want or need is the only way that you can ever achieve those things.

Don’t be afraid to talk to someone that you are in a relationship with and don’t be afraid of it turning into an argument. Communication is vital in the life of all relationships. It will allow you both to grow with the relationship as it continues. It will also prevent future miscommunications if you are taking the time to express yourself ahead of time.
